PARIS, FRANCE-- On the seventh day of negotiations at COP21, the Fossil of the Day Award was presented to Saudi Arabia and the United States.
The award is presented with dishonor to the country that is responsible for wrecking the climate or getting in the way of the climate negotiations. It was announced that Saudi Arabia won the first place award because the Saudi delegation says that "we cannot discriminate between clean and dirty fuels." The United States came in second place because they are now insisting that "vulnerable countries take compensation off the table for all time and never bring it up again."
A "Ray of the Day" was also awarded today to a country that is helping to make progress in the climate talks. The Philippines was awarded today's "Ray of the Day."
On December 7, 2015, the COP21 entered its second week of negotiations at the United Nations Climate Change conference. The COP21 is being held in Paris, France, at the Le Bourget conference center.
