PASTO, COLOMBIA- On September 8, 2018, tens of thousands of people joined over 830 actions in 91 countries under the banner of Rise for Climate to demonstrate the urgency of the climate crisis. Communities around the world shined a spotlight on the increasing impacts they are experiencing and demanded local action to keep fossil fuels in the ground. There were hundreds of creative events and actions that challenged fossil fuels and called for a swift and just transition to 100% renewable energy for all. Event organizers emphasized community-led solutions, starting in places most impacted by pollution and climate change.

In Pasto, capital city of Nariño, at the southwest of Colombia, dozens of peasant, artistic, academic, indigenous and social organizations gathered to reclaim and defend their territories from extractive activities like fracking, which risks the water sources and the biodiversity. Besides, they demonstrated across the city, playing different autochthonous musical rhythms, to promote alternative and sustainable economy, productive, energetic and mobiliy models to face the climate crisis.
