IQUITOS, PERÚ-- On September 8, 2018, tens of thousands of people joined over 830 actions in 91 countries under the banner of Rise for Climate to demonstrate the urgency of the climate crisis. Communities around the world shined a spotlight on the increasing impacts they are experiencing and demanded local action to keep fossil fuels in the ground. There were hundreds of creative events and actions that challenged fossil fuels and called for a swift and just transition to 100% renewable energy for all. Event organizers emphasized community-led solutions, starting in places most impacted by pollution and climate change.
The event was coordinated by Victoria Espinoza, who guided different activities that were taking place, one of the main was the sharing of testimonies from indigenous leaders, Victoria generated a pleasant conversation between participants and the indigenous leaders.
